Aloha, I moved to Hawaii from Florida to work as a merchant marine aboard the white ships and tugs in the mid 90’s. I quickly realized that I enjoyed working on smaller more intimate and free types of vessels better. I was blown away by the natural beauty of Hawaii and wanted to share it with others.
I got my first Commercial boat Captain license for up to 100 ton. vessel’s here in Hawaii in 1998. Soon after I got my Scuba Instructor certification here and Commercial Diver Certification / Degree in Marine and Diving Technology in California. Mostly in order to become a more knowledgeable well rounded boat Captain but also to work as a Professional Diver from time to time.
I mainly specialized in running nature boat tours of all sorts, helping people experience everything from the smallest fish to the largest whales on all sides of Oahu for various companies and private owners. I also did well with vessel salvage and towing and was able to use that larger boat experience to get a Master of Towing license and later upgrade to a 200 Ton Masters License which I use from time to time to operate vessels as large as 232′, with a 1500 passenger capacity.
